The South Asian population maintains a large community presence in Toronto. There are almost 30 South Asian ethnic publications in the Greater Toronto Area, and 30-40 radio stations serving this population (Melwani, 2009).

Gerrard Street in Toronto, between Greenwood and Coxwell, is commonly known as “Little India,” featuring a wide variety of Indian, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan shops, restaurants and grocery stores (Melwani, 2009).

South Asian communities also exist in Mississauga, Brampton and Scarborough, outside of the central Toronto area.

Within the GTA there are over 20 Gurudwaras, more than 50 temples and 100 mosques (Melwani, 2009).
